After scoring huge success in the US in 2012, Ellie Goulding is poised to launch her UK comeback in October 2012, with the release of her second album, Halcyon.

The new album will follow the release of new single 'Anything Can Happen' on 30 September, 2012.

The BRIT Award-winning singer has spoken of the new album as the release and artwork have been unveiled, revealing how the new album is unintentionally based on her break-up with Radio One DJ, Greg James.

“This album for me is a journey from dark into light from confusion to understanding," says the 'Lights' singer. "I didn't set out to write a break-up record but I think it became one."

Goulding recorded the album with Kylie Minogue's producer Jim Elliot of Kish Mauve, who were responsible for Kylie's 'All The Lovers' smash hit single.

Ellie Goulding previously gave fans a taste of the new album with the release of free download 'Hanging On' - a duet with Tinie Tempah. She is currently in the American Top Ten with her single 'Lights'.

Halcyon will be released on 8 October 2012.

Below: Ellie Goulding, Ed Sheeran and more UK stars huge in the US

  • Ed Sheeran: The 'A-Team' singer claimed he would work for nine months without a break to crack the US market - however, his debut album jumped to No.1 on iTunes on its day of release in June 2012, so maybe he can give himself some time off now?

  • Ellie Goulding: Ellie has recently sold a million copies of her debut album 'Lights' in the US. She loves the place so much, she's thinking of moving there to be closer to boyfriend Skrillex.

  • Arctic Monkeys: While yet to truly smash the US charts, Arctic Monkeys are fast becoming a hot property in the US, following a tour with US rockers Black Keys this year. Having picked up a strong live following, the band scored a Top Twenty US hit with 2011 album, 'Suck It And See'.

  • One Direction: At least while they are in America they're not troubling us in the UK. Recently entered the US album chart at No.1 with their debut album - a feat achieved by no other UK artist.

  • Calvin Harris: One of the biggest earning UK stars of 2011 thanks to his Rihanna collaboration 'We Found Love', Calvin's 2011 hit 'Feel So Close' is currently at No.12 in the US, establishing Calvin as a solo star in his own right.

  • Coldplay: A long time US success, every Coldplay album has secured at least platinum status in America. Their success extends worldwide, having sold over 55million records worldwide - many of those in America.

  • The Wanted: A Glee cover version shot another British boyband into the US Top Ten singles chart. 'A bit of rough' for teens for whom One Direction seem too squeaky clean.

  • Adele: Thought the Adele phenomenon had gone on long enough in the UK? In the US she still has two songs in the Billboard Hot 100 and a No.2 album.

  • Alex Clare: That's the power of the internet. Not only has 'online sensation' Alex Clare made his mark on the UK charts, but has this week debuted at No.73 on the US charts.

  • Jessie J: Having scored her sixth UK Top Ten hit from her debut album this week with 'Laserlight', The Voice judge is only just getting started in the US, and is currently riding high with UK No.1, 'Domino'.

  • Florence + The Machine: Florence sold nearly a million copies of her debut album 'Lungs' in America, and is well on the way to repeat the success with current album 'Ceremonials'. She also performed at this year's Coachella festival.
