Elton John has lashed out at Madonna, claiming that the star's career is over and that her current MDNA world tour is a disaster.

Elton John, who recently topped the UK album charts with his collection of tracks remixed by Australian dance duo Pnau took aim at Madonna after an apparent string of insults against his friend, Lady Gaga.

Madonna recently hit out at Lady Gaga, claiming she 'helped' the star write her hit 'Born This Way', which has long been compared to Madonna's own 'Express Yourself' hit.

“Why is she such a nightmare?" Says Elton, reports The Sun newspaper. "Sorry, her career is over. Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn't happen to a bigger c***.”

“If Madonna had any common sense she would have made a record like Ray Of Light and stayed away from the dance stuff and just been a great pop singer and make great pop records, which she does brilliantly.

“But no, she had to go and prove... she looks like a f****** fairground stripper. She's been horrible to Gaga.”

This isn't the first time Elton John has insulted Madonna, previously taking offence at her 2012 Golden Globes win. When her song 'Masterpiece' pipped John's 'Hello Hello' to an award, he reportedly wrote on Facebook: "Madonna. Best song???? F--k off!!!" Before later adding: "Thank you for all your comments and support. Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is."
