The most uplifting albums of 2012

As much as we all love moping around in the dark grumbling about how rubbish everything is, we're all now and then overcome with that rarest of emotions - happiness.

In those moments, our mood changes and with it, our music tastes. Instead of indulging our wallowing with misery-laden albums, we turn to cheerful, uplifting records that make us want to sing, dance and above all - open the curtains.

2012 has been a great year for music, both bleak and mood-brightening. From classic-sounding American rock to warm, wistful folk and long-forgotten disco classics reworked for a twentieth century audience, check out the most uplifting albums of the year - and you tell us at least one of these releases hasn't put a smile on your face...
