Sunday's London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony has been promised as 'the world's greatest afterparty' by musical director, David Arnold.
The producer has promised a spectacular event, and one where athletes and audience members can let their hair down after a fortnight of tense and inspirational sporting events.
"To me, this should be the greatest after-party in the world," Arnold tells The Guardian. "If the Opening Ceremony was the wedding, then we’re the wedding reception. We’re the one where everyone gets out of their cars at the village hall, goes 'Wasn’t that lovely, everyone looked great, let’s put on Blame It On the Boogie and have a laugh.'"
"It needs to be something where everyone, including the athletes, is going to be able to let off steam," he adds. "There are seven and a half thousand of them there, so it’s a show for them all to get involved with, and hopefully it will wrap up the spirit of what these Games have been, which is slightly anarchic, slightly mischievous, funny, heart-warming, emotional, inspiring, and uniquely British."
Arnold is keeping tight-lipped on performers at the event, but the likes of Kate Bush, Queen and One Direction are hotly tipped to perform. Muse and George Michael are among the confirmed performers at Sunday's Closing Ceremony.
