Blake Fielder-Civil reportedly went on a near fatal drinking binge after discovering old text messages from ex-wife Amy Winehouse, his Mother has claimed.

Fielder-Civil in recovering in hospital from the overdose, which happened earlier this week. Speaking to the Sun, his Mother Georgette claims that bad memories from the past triggered the incident.

“He had messages on his phone from Amy which he only got recently. He didn’t have the phone in prison and he picked up messages from her when he was released" she said.

Adding: “She said she wanted to be Jack’s godmother. The grief for Amy started again. I fear he may have been trying to take his own life.”

Civil was discovered by girlfriend Sarah Aspin on Friday night after a drinking session the previous day. Civil, who is a recovering drug addict, is thought to have taken an illegal substance during the binge. He is currently in a coma in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

"The doctors said they put him in a coma to help him and due to infection," Aspin told The Sun newspaper. "I'm praying he'll survive, but I'm having to prepare myself that he may never wake up."

Aspin revealed that she discovered Civil unconscious after he swallowed his tongue in his sleep and choking on his own vomit.

Amy's Father Mitch has asked fans to pray for Fielder-Civil during his time of need.
