The Libertines were asked to reform and perform at an Olympic closing party, Carl Barat has revealed.
Posting on Twitter over the weekend, Barat revealed that he and Pete Doherty were offered the opportunity to reunite and take to the stage but had to say no, most likely due to Doherty's ongoing drug rehab treatment.
"That was a closing party. Olympics. Libertines got asked, couldn't do it," Barat Tweeted.
It is not clear whether Barat meant that The Libertines were asked to perform at the Olympic closing ceremony or on the bill of Blur's BT Live gig in London's Hyde Park.
However, this being Twitter, Barat did receive some flak for his revelation. Replying to the critics, he wrote: "All this vexation for me? Cheers. No-one actually understanding why we couldn't do it."
Pete Doherty most recently hit the headlines after it was revealed he had been kicked out of a Thai rehab centre for being a 'disruptive influence'.
Meanwhile, Doherty and Barat are believed to be writing new songs for the first time since their 2010 Libertines reunion.
