The Darkness have defended their cover version of Radiohead's 'Street Spirit' after announcing the live favourite would appear on their upcoming album, 'Hot Cakes'.

The band have revealed that the cover version was chosen because they love both the band and the song.

"It's not going to be for everybody, but the band isn't for everybody," says frontman Justin Hawkins in an interview with Gigwise. "We didn't do it in a mocking way, to take the p*ss out of Radiohead."

"Radiohead are one of the very few bands that we all agree on. We wanted to do a cover that showed we didn't hate Radiohead - becauser we were so sick of people saying that we hated Radiohead."

Drummer Ed Graham adds: "If you don't want a song to be covered - don't release it."

The Darkness' release their cover of 'Street Spirit' on their third album, Hot Cakes, which is due for release on 20 August, 2012.
