The Spice Girls' odds of reaching number one in the UK singles chart this Christmas have been slashed following their performance at the London Olympics' closing ceremony last night.

Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Mel C and Mel B sang 'Wannabe' and 'Spice Up Your Life' at the Olympic stadium in Stratford, east London.

Now Ladbrokes has cut its odds on the girl group scoring this year's Christmas number one from 66/1 to 25/1.

The odds of the group fully reuniting have also been cut to 10/1, while chances of new Spice Girls material in 2012 now sit at 20/1.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Ladbrokes' Alex Donohue said: "We reckon the Christmas number one bets for the Spice Girls were more in hope than anything else.

"It would be silly of us to completely rule out a comeback after that performance however."

Odds of the Spice Girls performing together again before the end of 2012 have been set as low as 3/1.

The girl group previously reunited in 2007 for a tour and greatest hits album, while they attended a press conference in June to promote the launch of the Viva Forever! musical last month.
