The names of the artists who turned down invites to perform at the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony has been revealed, with a number of huge British music stars on the list who turned down the show.
Kate Bush, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and Sex Pistols have all been named as artists who declined organisers invites to perform, according to the ceremony's producer, Kim Gavin.
The Guardian reports that Gavin had to approach The Who on two separate occasions to persuade the band to appear at the show.
Before the event, Kate Bush was strongly rumoured for an appearance at the show after a listing on Amazon was posted early, revealing the release of a new mix of her track, 'Running Up That Hill'. The track was used in the ceremony - but Bush did not appear.
Kate Bush later sent her congratulations to the organisers of the show, saying: "I hope you all enjoyed the remix of Running Up That Hill this evening at the Olympics Closing Ceremony. They certainly put on a brilliant show."
David Bowie was featured in a montage during the show but likewise did not appear.
Yesterday (13 August, 2012) The Libertines revealed they were invited but could not perform, hinting that Pete Doherty's ongoing drug rehab was why they could not perform.
