Muse have revealed that composer Hans Zimmer has influenced their new album, 'The 2nd Law'.

The band have long had a widescreen sound and told Classic Rock magazine that the man behind the music featured in all three films in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy has inspired their new material.

"I've always been very influenced by and interested in film music, growing up watching Stephen Spielberg films or John Williams' stuff. And I've always been a big fan of Hans Zimmer," Matt Bellamy told the magazine.

Adding: " He's the greatest film composer of recent times. That song 'The 2nd Law', you can definitely hear some Hans Zimmer influence."

Hans Zimmer has worked on over 100 film scores, including Inception, Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Muse have also discussed the influence of dubstep titans such as Skrillex on their new music, revealing the song 'Unsustainable' last week which features a huge electronic sound.

The band also appeared at the Olympic Games closing ceremony, spending the night partying with Liam Gallagher and The Spice Girls.
