Michael Jackson's father has dropped a case of wrongful death against Conrad Murray - the former doctor who was convicted of causing the King of Pop's death.

Joe Jackson started proceedings against the former doctor in June 2010, seeking civil damages for loss of income and emotional distress among other issues.

The case claimed that Murray had lied to paramedics about the anaesthetic propofol he had given Jackson. State court documents in Los Angeles however, show that the request to dismiss the case was granted on Monday and do not appear to give reasons.

However, two lawyers involved in the case were recently found ineligible to practice law in California.

Conrad Murray's attorney, Charles Peckham, said he was pleased that the case had been dropped: "It's good finally that this case is dismissed and gone," he said on Wednesday.

"It's pretty clear that Joe Jackson intelligently and smartly dismissed this case so he, his wife and children can focus on Michael Jackson's life instead of the circumstances of his death."

Peckham added that Murray still felt sorry for Jackson's family after the singer's death.

"His heart goes out to them," Peckham said.

Another case against concert promoter AEG Live for allegedly negligently hiring Murray as the singer's doctor is still being pursued by Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine, and is set to go to trial in April.
