Matt Bellamy has promised fans an eclectic mix of sounds on Muse's upcoming album, The 2nd Law.
The Westcountry are set to return with their sixth album on 1 October this year, and The 2nd Law is set to be the trio's most diverse album to date. Already, the band has showcased classic stadium rock in Olympics theme 'Survival' and a deep dive into dubstep on new single 'Unsustainable'.
Now, in a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine, frontman Matt Bellamy has revealed the full extent of the influences that have gone into the new record.
"There are electro-pop sounds and songs that are obviously classic rock," he tells the US magazine. "Then there are the orchestral things."
As well as a mix of sounds, the band have taken inspiration on a global scale for the new album. "[The album] looks at the other side of the coin, this adventurous spirit we've created that is now in question, because the planet is saying, 'I'm only so big and have this much,'" adds Bellamy.
He also reveals the album has a handful of lighter moments, which he compares to a classic Beach Boys sound.
"It's a new sound for us," he says. "It makes for a nice change."
"I've always been very influenced by and interested in film music, growing up watching Stephen Spielberg films or John Williams' stuff. And I've always been a big fan of Hans Zimmer," Matt Bellamy told Classic Rock.
