Mariah Carey returned to the US charts this week with her comeback track - hitting the Billboard countdown at a less than impressive No.115.
The single sold 23,000 downloads in its first week of release to sell fewer copies than a bonus track from Beyonce's 2011 album 4. Her track 'Dance For You' is currently at No.111 in the US chart. In the US, songs outside of the Billboard Top 100 are counted in a second chart, the Billboard Bubbling Under chart - placing Mariah at No.15.
The single droppped out of the US iTunes Top Ten in less than three days of release on 3 August and has since dropped from the iTunes Top 200 altogether. The singer has a performance scheduled at a huge US football game in Early September and an upcoming slot as a new judge on American Idol, which she will no doubt hope can turn around the fortunes of the single.
Tweeting about the single on its release, the new American Idol judge recently wrote: “I wrote TRIUMPHANT when I was going through a difficult time & it helped me get through it,” she said earlier this month. “When u hear it, pay attention 2 the lyrics #WIN.”
Speaking to MTV, song writer and producer Bryan-Michael Cox said: "This song is kind of inspirational. It's close to her heart, and I think her fans are going to really, really be emotionally attached to this song.
