The Vaccines' frontman and songwriter Justin Young has confessed his band's lyrics are 'knowingly dumb'.

The band's frontman has hit back at criticism of their songs, revealing that he is fully aware of the 'young, dumb, primitive' nature of their tracks.

"I like stupid f***ing clunky lyrics. People probably don't realise how knowingly dumb they are," Young tells The Guardian newspaper.

"All the pop music I like is young, dumb and primitive. I want to make that kind of music."

He also speaks of the ease writing songs for the band, adding: "It scares me how easy I find songwriting. I know we're a great band. I have more focus than I've ever had in my life."

Justin previously told Gigwise that he would consider penning tracks for other artists in the future, and had a couple of international superstars in mind to record his tracks.

"I'd definitely like to write to other artists," Young told Gigwise. "It's hard because I get so many melodies and don't know what to do with them, but i've never taken the emotional element out of songwriting.

"If I was proud of the song and didn't want it, i'd certainly be happy for someone else to sing it."

When asked which pop artists he'd like to hear record his tracks, he named two of the biggest stars on the planet, saying: "I think Rihanna gets a lot of really good songs. Lady Gaga gets good songs as well."
