The queue outside Birthdays in Daston for Bloc Party's impromptu free gig tonight is already well over the venue's 250 capacity and fans are now advised not to show up for the gig.

The show was announced yesterday on the band's Twitter account, where they stated that it would be free, and it would be first come, first served.

The fans at the front of the queue have been on the pavement outside the bar since five this morning, and one man having come all the way from Germany for the intimate performance. To pass the time, the crowd have been drinking, playing snap and chatting about the band's back catologue.

Everyone in the queue is obviously very excited for the gig, and people are saying they're most looking forward to hearing the band's latest material. One fan said: "I've listened to the album since it came out on Monday, and I can't wait to hear it live."

Opinions on the new album were all very positive, one queue member said: "When you first listen to it it seems really heavy, but after a few more listens you notice some really good riffs."

Another was looking forward to hearing tracks that don't appear on the album, stating: "I hope they play old numbers and a few rarities, and they might as it's such a small show, but I don't want to get my hopes up or anything."

When asked if they thought this would be the last album, one fan said: "It sounds like they've got too much enthusiasm to just give up now."
