Bloc Party showed their dedication to getting to number one in the Official Album Chart this week when drummer Matt Tong posting a call to arms on the forum of Bournemouth Football Club.
Tong, a lifelong supporter of the team and semi-regular poster on the forum, put the message online last night (Aug 23) urging fans of the club to go out and buy new album 'Four' to ensure it gets to number one this week.
As reported on Gigwise, Bloc Party are neck and neck with Emeli Sande in the midweek charts with her album 'Our Version Of Events' just 200 sales ahead of 'Four'.
Writing on the forum, Tong put: "I can't quite believe I'm doing this, but it's worth a shot, I think."
"As a few of you know, I am Bournemouth born and raised and have been a supporter of this club for almost 20 years. "
"I also happen to play drums in a band called Bloc Party and this week we released our first record in four years. Much to our surprise (and delight), we are locked in a deadly chart battle with Emeli Sande for the coveted #1 spot in the album chart."
Tong went on to add that: "It's "probably" not going to happen now since we'll get murdered at the weekend when all the parents descend on the supermarkets and start buying the Sande record in bundles."
However, fans of The Poppies, who have a big game against Preston in League 1 this weekend, seemed receptive and promised to help Bloc Party across the line.
