Reading and Leeds festival organiser Melvin Benn has confirmed that he already has two of the three headline acts for next year’s festivals.
Fresh from the success of the 2012 events, which saw headline sets from Kasabian, Foo Fighters and The Cure, Benn revealed he already knows 2/3 of the bands for next year.
Speaking to NME, Benn said: “We've got two out of the three headliners already secured. The third – we know exactly who we want.
“We haven't made the approach yet, [but] my feeling is they want to do it.”
He went on to rule out the possibility of
The Stone Roses, adding: “My feeling is probably that they're ()The Stone Roses] are not on our list.”
Benn also spoke of plans to organise a new, smaller festival. He said that ideas were still in the pipeline but that he wants to create a new experience.
He said: “I felt it would be nice to start a really tiny little festival and see how that goes.
“I've got some people I want to work with who I think will bring fresh and new ideas to the festival market and we'll want to create a festival that's different to everything else that's out there.”
Benn, who is also organiser of Latitude festival, finished by describing the
Foo Fighters’ Leeds performance as ‘very special’ and went on to say, “That was the biggest love-in I've ever seen.
“The atmosphere, the bond between Dave Grohl and the fans is just unreal. It felt very special. I was quite moved by it actually.”
