The xx’s Oliver Sim had to reassure his mother that he wasn’t going to have a nervous breakdown after she read their lyrics.

Speaking to Q, Sim spoke about how the bleak lyrics led to concerns about his mental state after his family listened to new album ‘Coexist’.

Sim said: “My mum reads the lyrics and asks if she should be worried.

“Please, no one worry about me, I'm happy! I just connect with the sadder songs, my favourite songs are devastating.”

However, Sim did go on to admit that the aspect of The xx that he finds depressing is how frequently their music is played on TV shows.

He finished by saying: “’Intro’ ended up on cookery shows and the election. It was a bit much!”

Sim also recently told Q that he would love to write a song for Beyonce.
