Melanie Masson, who was seen on this weekend's X Factor, has revealed she hid her past as a session singer for Kasabian and The Happy Monday from TV talent show bosses.
Melanie Masson, who performed a crowd-pleasing version of Janis Joplin's 'Cry Baby' for judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa and Louis Walsh, has sung on tracks by bands including Kasabian, Stereophonics, Fatboy Slim and Happy Mondays.
Masson also had a brief solo deal with EMI before giving up on music to become a full time Mum. However, X Factor producers were under the impression the 44 year old was an undiscovered talent.
Speaking to The Sun, Masson said: 'Most of the work I did was ten to 15 years ago. But for the past six years I’ve been a full-time mum.
'I had a brief deal with EMI 18 years ago but was dropped after a year. I’ve never really had that big break to shine as an individual. This is my last chance.'
X Factor came under fire over the weekend after airing an hour-long audition episode that featured just eight minutes of actual performances.
