Bestival organisers have provided a free, downloadable map to assist the 50,000 festival-goers heading the the Isle of Wight this weekend (6-9 September).

Although ticketholders are encouraged to travel to the island as foot passengers, 5,500 additional vehicles are expected on the island, which is expected to get very busy.

The map outlines the designated routes for Bestival traffic with advice on areas local residents should avoid.

Originally posted on the local council's website, the map is now available to view and download here in PDF format.

Festival and council social media sites will also be posting travel information and updates throughout the weekend.

Director for economy and environment at the Isle of Wight Council, Stuart Love, told the BBC: "We would encourage people to familiarise themselves with the designated routes for Bestival traffic and plan their routes to avoid them if possible.

"We are working closely with the partner agencies and ferry companies to minimise disruption to residents as we welcome thousands of people to the Island for this year's Bestival."

Weather forecasts for the weekend at the island festival are looking very positive, with high temperatures and sunshine expected all weekend.

The likes of Stevie Wonder, New Order, Sigur Ros, Florence and the Machine and The xx are set to perform at the sold-out festival.

The event, which takes place at Robin Hill Country Park and this year has a wildlife fancy dress theme for revellers, will also be streamed live on YouTube.
