Nickelback's Chad Kroeger has spoken about the reaction of the world to his recent engagement to pop singer Avril Lavigne.
The couple announced their shock engagement in August after dating for several months, but the frontman says he isn't bothered by the reaction in the media to their relationship.
Kroeger told People Magazine: "I try not to take too much interest in the world's opinion of our relationship. I just know the both of us are very happy."
Kroeger also revealed that he started dating fellow Canadian Lavigne on Canada Day (1 July).
They had originally met in February when they co-wrote a song for the 'Complicated' singer's fifth album.
"We think it's very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day," he continued. "We can't wait to start our life together."
Kroeger,37, has never been married but Lavigne, 27, was previously married to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley for three years before their divorce in 2009.
Kroeger, who reportedly bought Lavigne a $350,000 engagement ring, admitted recently that he was embarrassed when telling his mum about his engagement.
