Alt-J, The Maccabees nominated for Mercury Prize

Alt-J, Plan B, Jessie Ware and The Maccabees have been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize 2012, with all twelve nomiated acts announced by Lauren Laverne at The Hospital Club in London this evening.

Django Django, Field Music, Michael Kiwanuka and Richard Hawley are also on the shortlist for this year's prize, with the winner set to be announced on Thursday, November 1st at the Roundhouse in Camden, London.

Lianne La Havas, Roller Trio, Sam Lee and Ben Howard round off the shortlist with Alt-J and Django Django current favourites to win the prize.

PJ Harvey won the Mercury Prize in 2011 for her album 'Let England Shake'. Other acts to win the prize in recent years include The xx, Klaxons, Elbow, Arctic Monkeys and Speech Debelle.

The Mercury Music Prize is eligible to be won by any British artist who released an album between 12 July 2011 and 10 September 2012.
