A federal court in Minnesota has given a woman a $222,000 fine in damages after she was accused of illegally downloading 24 tracks.
Jammie Thomas argued that the fine of $9,250 per song was excessive. Her claim was rejected.
Thomas believes that either her ex-boyfriend, or two young sons are the ones responsible for the downloads. This particular case highlights the on-going battle the music industry is having with illegal downloaders.
Thomas is just one of 18,000 people that the Recording Industry Association of America has sued between 2003-2008.
Their aim is to make examples of illegal downloaders and people who use file sharing sites like Kazaa and Limewire.
