The 'WARNING: Do not buy this album! This man beats women!" stickers that mysteriously appeared on the cover of Chris Brown's new album Fortune may have boosted sales of the album, says a spokesperson for HMV.
Labels appeared on the albums last week, and HMV later denied any involvement in the incident.
"More people now know there's a new Chris Brown album out,' says a spokesperson to the NME. "I guess they got their point across pretty effectively – with widespread coverage around the world, though."
The stickers appeared last weekend (September 15th) at a Cambridge branch of HMV.
The first photo to surface of the defaced album cover was tweeted by Cambridge University's Student Union. It has been highly speculated that they are the ones behind the stunt, their motto is, "Represent women students in Cambridge and campaign for gender equality."
