There is reportedly growing unrest amongst the talent at the BBC over the amount of money the coaches on The Voice UK are earning in comparison to the success of the show.
The Voice UK started earlier this year with a huge promotional push but struggled in the ratings with winner Leanne Mitchell failing to crack the top forty and a nationwide tour cancelled through lack of demand for tickets.
However, all four coaches (Will.i.am, Jessie J, Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue) are returning for a second series and looking to earn around £500k each for their time. This has caused major upset at the BBC, where judges on shows such as Strictly Come Dancing earn around £100k per year.
One anonymous source asked the Daily Mail, ‘How can the BBC justify paying that much money to four part-time judges who work a few hours a week on a show that struggled?
Adding: ‘I’ve had to take a major pay cut and accept that I’ll probably never receive a pay increase again, even though I work on a successful show.’
Whilst another added: ‘There are brilliant presenters who work full-time for the BBC who get less than half of the money paid out to The Voice judges. It’s not fair.’
