X Factor singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan, who is openly gay, has spoken of her pride at inspiring young fans to come to terms with their own sexuality.

The singer/songwriter has proven a huge hit with X Factor viewers, and was even poised to score chart success following ger first audition - before licensing rules meant her album was forced to be withdrawn from iTunes. Now, the openly gay singer has spoken of being a role model for young gay fans.

"It's been amazing," she says in an interview with The Sun newspaper. "I've done gigs and some young girls there said they were watching TV with their parents, they heard my music, their parents loved it, found out I was gay, still loved it and they've said, 'Oh, I'm gay as well', and their parents have been fine."

"For me, to have helped someone come out is the biggest compliment ever."

The singer has now reached the Judges Houses section of the X Factor audition process and is all-but guaranteed a place in the live finals with her acoustic guitar, Ed Sheeran-esque style.
