Feist has won the 2012 Polaris Music Prize for her album 'Metals'.
The annual prize looks to award the maker of the best Canadian album of the previous twelve months. It was Feist's first win though she was nominated in 2007 for her album 'The Reminder'. She collects the prize as well as $30,000.
Feist faced stiff competition and was awarded the prize ahead of records from Drake, Grimes, F*cked Up, Cold Specks and Japandroids.
Accepting her award at the Toronto ceremony, Feist payed tribute to her fellow nominees, saying: “Everyone had a favourite here tonight, and I did too — and I did not think it was me,” she added in wrapping up. “I’m just really shocked and really, really grateful to be a part of the night.”
Arcade Fire won the 2011 Polaris Prize for their album 'The Suburbs'. Other previous winners include Caribou, Patrick Watson and Final Fantasy (Owen Pallett).
'Metals' is Feist's 4th album and includes the single 'How Come You Never Go There', which you can hear below:
