An audition on this year's X Factor is to be investigated by TV watchdog after concerns that a performance by a 51-year-old woman caused distress to her two young children.
Alison Brunton performed a cover of Lady Gaga's 'Edge Of Glory' on the show - during which her children watched from the sides of the stage and were shown to be clearly embarrassed at her audition. The British broadcasting code states that children and under-18s should not be 'caused unnecessary distress or anxiety by their involvement in programmes.'
The blonde singer spoke of her desire to ditch family life for one on stage before comparing herself to Madonna. Her two teenange children looked awkward and uncomfortable in footage broadcast. The 14 and 16-year-old watched with host Dermot O'Leary from the wings. When Brunton said she thought he children would enjoy her performance, they are seen shaking their heads, red-faced with embarrassment.
Brunton then kisses judge Gary Barlow, much to their obvious horror. They also discuss potential repercussions of the audition at school before her out of tune audition.
A spokesperson for The X Factor said in a statement.
"The X Factor does not include child contestants but takes the welfare of any children featured in the show very seriously."
