Tim Burgess of indie legends The Charlatans is among the first big names to have paid tribute to Andy Williams, who died this week aged 84.
It was announced today that Williams, famous for tracks such as 'Moon River' and 'Music To Watch Girls By' died at home on Tuesday night (25 September, 2012) after a battle with bladder cancer. Now, stars of music and broadcasting have taken to Twitter to speak of their sadness at the loss of the music icon.
Tim Burgess, frontman of The Charlatans tweeted: "Another sad loss. Andy Williams was a real smooth guy, that's for sure. Rest in peace Andy."
Mark Feehily from boyband Westlife said:" RIP Andy Williams,this song is so beautiful & I've been listening to it regularly for the last few years," as he shared Williams' track 'Love Story, Where Do I Begin'.
Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas tweeted simply: 'R.I.P. Andy Williams.'
Radio and TV presenter Nicky Campbell took to Twitter to say: "Andy Williams RIP. Sublime voice. Love this. Used to close his TV show with it," as he posted 'May Each Day'.
Williams revealed he had cancer in November 2011 but continued to perform live in his own theatre until he was admitted to hospital earlier this year.
