Rihanna is set for a chart battle next week after bringing the release of her new single 'Diamonds' forward to Sunday 30 September, 2012 - putting the track in direct competition with One Direction, who release their new single on the same day.
The head to head battle of arguably the two biggest names in pop this year is likely to go down to the wire with both acts having huge and active fanbases. One Direction will release their song 'Live While We're Young' this weekend. The track is the first song their fans have heard from the group's forthcoming second album.
Rihanna's song 'Diamonds' is currently at number one in fifteen different countries around the world, including Argentina, France and Portugal.
'Diamonds' is taken from the US star's seventh studio album and is written by David Guetta collaborator, Sia, to whom Rihanna referred to earlier as her 'wife' on Twitter earlier today (26 September, 2012). 'Diamonds' has been produced by production superstars Stargate and Benny Bianco.
The track is a mid-tempo electronic track, with subtle beats and a catchy 'Shine bright light a diamond' hook.
The artwork for the single depicts the world's most expensive smoke, with Rihanna rolling a cigarette with diamonds instead of tobacco.
