Welsh singer Charlotte Church has spoken of her TV duet with Amy Winehouse in 2007, speaking of the pair's 'difficult' live performance of Michael Jackson's 'Beat It'.

Church performed with Winehouse on her Channel 4 chat show, which showcased Amy's decline to TV audiences as she struggled to remember the lyrics and slurred her way through the track. Church has spoken of her love for Winehouse and her work and her sadness at the star's death.

"I was kinda aware when Amy came on the show that she was a little troubled and it was difficult," she tells Gigwise. "It's so sad what happened to her. She was such an amazing talent. I really wanted to hear the follow up to Back To Black but it wasn't to be. She was great to work with, she wasn't really herself at the time when I worked with her but it was still great to meet her and she is a legend."

Church, who is making her return to music with her new self-released EP One on 15 October 2012, also says Amy simply couldn't cope with the pressure of fame, which led to her turning to drink and drugs.

"I loved Frank, which is why I asked to get Amy Winehouse on the show. She was phenomenal musician and I think it's hard," she adds. "It was a difficult situation for her, it was obviously a lot of pressure. Some people cope with it OK and some people just don't really know how to deal with it or it's too much."

One is released on 15 October. Check back on Gigwise next week for the full Charlotte Church interview.
