Alt-J have played down the similarities between themselves and Radiohead, saying it is far too early in their career for such comparisons.

The band, who released their debut album 'An Awesome Wave' earlier this year and have subsequently picked up a Mercury Music Prize nomination, are regularly branded 'the new Radiohead' by fans and critics.

However, lead singer Joe Newman told The Independent that he isn't so keen on being put on the same level as Thom Yorke and co.

"Radiohead have had an amazing career and we've only just done our first album. We don't ever want to find ourselves writing an album that we don't feel comfortable with,"  he said.

Adding: "It'd be horrible to hear anyone say, 'Alt-J: First album was great, second album was really good, third album – they just blew it."

Alt-J are currently second in the bookies odds to win the 2012 Mercury, trailing behind Plan B and Richard Hawley.
