One Direction have admitted that their new single borrows liberally from The Clash's hit single 'Should I Stay or Should I Go?'
The similarities between the classic track and One Direction's new single 'Live While We're Young' was made by Gigwise earlier this month. Asked about it in an interview this week, the teen boyband did not shy away from the truth with Harry Styles saying:
"It's a bit like the first single where the opening riff sounds similar to a certain film. "It was kind of on purpose though. It's a great riff, so."
Chatting to BBC News, Styles bandmate Louis Tomlinson also stated that it is hard to write an original guitar riff in 2012.
Thinking out loud, Louis said: "I assume it must be quite difficult to do a unique riff now because there have been so many songs - surely there's only so many riffs you can pull out?"
What do you think? Have One Direction copied The Clash? Or is this a simple mistake. Listen to both songs below and let us know your thoughts.
