A close friend of Amy Winehouse has written and recorded a song he hopes will help make money for the charity established following her death in 2011.

Zalon, who performed as part of Amy's backing group when she performed live, releases 'You Let Me Breathe' today (Oct 1) and told The Sun that the song was something he wrote as soon as he learned that Winehouse had died in July of last year.

“It was my immediate response. It poured out of me... It was my way of dealing with it.," he told the paper. Adding: “The lyrics were about how helpless I felt, I could only cry for Amy, but that wouldn’t bring her back.

"I was crying in the booth while recording and I wasn’t strong enough to release it until now.”

“I’m so grateful to her and her family (who) are doing fantastic work with the Foundation. It is only right to donate the proceeds of the single to the charity.”

Zalon was signed to Lioness, the label Winehouse established before her death and regularly performed a solo set during her live shows.

Meanwhile, Amy recently hit the headlines after her ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil admitted that he was the one who introduced class-A drugs to their relationship.
