Coachella offered to stop selling any meat products at their festival in order to secure a headline set from The Smiths, it has been revealed.

Morrissey shared the offer, made recently with a view to reforming the band for their 2013 event, in a new interview with the Herald Sun.

Revealing how Coachella bosses only really wanted to see Morrissey and Marr back together, he said: "Interestingly the agents for Coachella offered a 100-per-cent vegetarian event for the following year if I would agree to headline with Johnny Marr as the Smiths. Fascinatingly they made it clear that they would 'not require' the Smiths' bass player or drummer ... which I thought certainly said something."

The offer relates to a 2009 incident in which Morrissey refused to perform during his solo slot at the California festival whilst the smell of a nearby barbeque could be smelt.

Morrissey made a number of eye raising comments in the same interview, including labelling Prince Harry an 'idiot'.

The frontman also criticised The Killers, Facebook and Russell Brand's movie career.
