London four-piece Mumford and Sons have proven themselves bigger than Justin Bieber this week after selling 600,000 copies of new album Babel - 226,000 more than Bieber's Believe did in its first week on sale.
Billboard have reported that the band have smashed the 2012 US album sales record with the follow up to their equally successful debut album ‘Sigh No More.’ It was also announced that their debut album has not dropped out of the Top 75 in the Billboard Chart since entering in July 2010, selling 2.5million copies in the US to date.
‘Babel’ was the first US No.1 from the band, having already topped the UK charts for the first time by selling 159,000 copies in the first week. There seems to be no stopping the band at the moment with impressive download sales seeing them sit behind Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ as the second highest selling digital album in history.
Mumford and Sons are set to go on tour across the UK and Ireland this winter, even announcing a second date at the O2 arena in London yesterday. Tickets for the new date go on sale on Monday, 8 October, at 9am. For more information visit Gigwise Gig Tickets.
