The X Factor may still be headline news, but viewers are still remarkably low for this year's series - with boss Simon Cowell said to be planning a major shake up if the show is to return in 2013.
The music mogul and TV talent show megastar is said to be planning to ditch the current X Factor judges line-up (Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, Tulisa and Nicole Scherzinger) and to replace them with former judge Cheryl Cole and The Voice mentor, Will.i.am.
"We need to do something dramatic and this would be a coup," said an insider on the show to The Mirror newspaper of the proposed £2million bid for the pop duo. "It would give us the best judging line-up in X Factor history.”
However, Simon Cowell will have some serious making up to do if he wants Cheryl to return to the show, after she reveals in her new biography how angry she was when she was fired from American X Factor.
Writing in the book, Cheryl says: "[Cowell] didn't even have the guts to phone or send a message warning me what was coming.
"I was furious with Simon for letting it happen like this. I believed we had a good friendship and I couldn't understand why he just hadn't been straight with me."
The 'Promise This' star admitted to sending Cowell an angry text which said: "I hate you."
However, The Mirror also claims that Cheryl may now be wavering in her dislike for her former boss, and quotes her as recently saying: "Never say never" when asked about a possible return.
Cheryl joined Gary Barlow at the judges house stage of this year's X Factor to help the judge select the Over-28s he would take into the show's live finals.
