A multi-million bid for the back-catalogues of Blur, David Bowie and Pink Floyd and many more iconic artists has been offered by Simon Fuller as Universal records sells some of its assets in its EMI takeover.
Fuller, who created Pop Idol and American Idol, is said to have put in a bid of £350 million for David Bowie and Pink Floyd's entire music history along with back catalogues of Blur, Coldplay and Kylie Minogue. He has teamed up with British music mogul Chris Blackwell to make the joint bid.
Bowie and Pink Floyd are among the causalties of Universal's acquisition of EMI records - which was permitted only if they sold off smaller label Parlophone - to which both were signed.
The shake up comes after the European Commission approved Universal's £1.2 billion takeover of EMI, but specified strict instructions to prevent the label becoming too powerful in the music industry.
Also up for sale will be Mute - which boasts The Ramones on its roster, Chrysalis, who have Depeche Mode and Moby on their books as well as Universal's 50% stake in the Now! That's What I Call Music compilations. The shake-up has prompted suggestions that the hugely successful Now collection may come to an end instead of being sold.
