US rapper Nelly has denied all knowledge of a loaded gun and drugs haul discovered on his tour bus when the vehicle was searched as part of a routine border patrol check in Texas.

Border control officers at the checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas searched the bus after a dog detected traces of drugs.  The traces turned out to be 0.64 ounces of heroin distributed among 36 small plastic bags, more than ten pounds of marijuana and just in case the drugs were not enough, a loaded .45-caliber pistol was also found.

Cornell Iral Haynes aka Nelly was detained along with 6 other people on the bus during the search but one passenger Brian Keith Jones, admitted the drugs and gun were his. Jones was subsequently placed under arrest and rapper Nelly and the other 5 people were let go.

The hip-hop star released a statement yesterday (11th October) playing down his part in the incident.

"It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest” adding "Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board."

The incident took place at the same checkpoint in Texas where drugs were found on the tour buses of rapper Snoop Dogg and singers Willie Nelson and Fiona Apple.
