Hotly-tipped newcomer Jake Bugg has taken an early lead on this week's iTunes chart, with his debut, self-titled album currently at No.1 on the download store.

The rising star releases his album in a week with some strong female competition - X Factor star Leona Lewis and two-time Mercury Music Prize nominees Bat For Lashes also have new records out this week. However, as of Monday (15 October, 2012), Jake Bugg's debut is No.1 on iTunes.

The 18-year-old star, who has often been compared to the likes of Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Johnny Cash, is on course to topple the mighty Mumford & Sons from the No.1 spot this week - which should be no mean feat, considering how many records they have set with their Babel album.

However, Leona Lewis' Glassheart currently holds two spots in the iTunes top ten (regular and deluxe editions) so depending on sales figures, she may steal the top spot from Bugg before the week's end.

Meanwhile, Adele looks likely to miss the No.1 spot with her Bond theme 'Skyfall' once again, as Calvin Harris and Florence + The Machine's new track 'Sweet Nothing' is currently at the top on the singles countdown. 'Sweet Nothing' is the duo's second collaboration, after Harris previously remixed her album track 'Spectrum' - resulting in Florence's first ever No.1 single.

Adele was denied her second No.1 single this week when Swedish House Mafia snatched it away from her with their new track, 'Don't You Worry Child'.
