Album chart topper Jake Bugg has spoken of his chart success with his debut album, saying it is 'his job' to keep 'X Factor sh*t off the top of the charts'.

The 18-year-old star entered the charts at No.1 this weekend with his debut, self-titled album ahead of X Factor winner Leona Lewis - who entered at No.3 with her latest release, Glassheart.

Now, Bugg has said that it is his career aim to outsell artists like Leona.

"I guess it proves my point," says Bugg, as quoted by NME. "People still want to hear guitar music. It’s my job to keep that X Factor shit off the top of the charts."

Bugg also thanked his fans personally for getting him to No.1 in the chart, tweeting this morning: "Just wanted to say thank you for all your support!"

Leona Lewis was forced to settle for No.3 with her Glassheart album

Bugg has found favour with fellow music stars as well, with rapper Example recommending his Twitter followers download Bugg's album.

"New Jake Bugg album is superb," the 'Say Nothing' star tweeted last week. "Check it out people. Talented little f**ker he is."

Bugg knocked Mumford & Sons from the top spot on this week's album chart, while Calvin Harris and Florence Welch topped the singles chart with their new collaboration, 'Sweet Nothing'.
