Emeli Sande has spoken of her delight at being named Q's Best Solo Artist at the Q Awards yesterday (22 October, 2012).
The singer-songwriter scooped the award despite stiff competition from fellow nominees Noel Gallagher, Adele and Florence Welch.
And it showed that despite many awards being won by already big names such as Muse, Pulp and Blur, there's still a place for upcoming acts to shine.
As quoted in the Daily Record, Sande said: "This is a big one. It’s a big competition, so it was really good. I’m very happy about this.
"It feels really nice to get that type of acknowledgement."
