Muse frontman, Matt Bellamy, has admitted his surprise at the band's song 'Survival' being chosen to soundtrack the Olympics.

The track was played between events at the Olympic stadium over the summe, with the trio also being chosen to play it live at the Games' closing ceremony.

After being credited with the tag of 'Best Band in the World Today' at yesterday's Q Awards, Bellamy confessed he did not expect the song's subject matter to be what London 2012 organisers were looking for.

He said: "We are as surprised as you are that we managed to fob off a song about survival on to the Olympics.”

But despite his surprise, the guitar ace explained that the use of 'Survival' at London 2012, and the release of sixth album The 2nd Law, have made it a 'top year' for the band.

The honour at the Q Awards capped it all off, and upon receiving the award, Bellamy went on to speak of his delight that Muse have managed to stick around this long.

He added: "We’ve been together since we were kids and we’re still here.

"The key to winning this has been staying together. We're solid as a rock. Thank you."

Other winners at the Q Awards included Blur, Manic Street Preachers, Plan B, and Emeli Sande.
