Despite rumours that Muse were in the running for recording the new James Bond theme, movie producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson have revealed that Adele was the artist they wanted to soundtrack Skyfall.

Adele is currently enjoying Top Ten success with her 'Skyfall' single, but it set to miss the official London premiere of the movie tonight, instead opting to spend the time with her newborn son. Adele reportedly gave birth to her first child on Friday, 19 October 2012.

When questioned by The Metro newspaper, Broccoli hit back at suggestions that 'Supremacy' by Muse was ever in the running for consideration as the Bond theme.

"No. Adele was always our first choice," she told the newspaper.

Broccoli and Wilson also revealed that Amy Winehouse would have been in consideration for the opportunity, had the singer still been alive.

"She would have been great, wonderful," Wilson told the newspaper.

"She's an enormous artist still today. It's a tragic ending to her life but she's with us forever," Wilson added.

Muse were not considered for Bond, says producer Barbra Broccoli

Muse revealed they had hoped their track would be used in the latest James Bond movie earlier last month.

"It's got a little whisper to the Bond vibe - it all goes a bit crazy Live and Let Die in the middle," said Dom Howard of Muse in a September interview with the BBC. "My view is they should use it for the next James Bond film, but I don't know what's going on with that. I heard Adele was doing it!"

Muse's track 'Survival' was used as the official theme to the summer's London 2012 Olympics - but Matt Bellamy has today revealed his shock that the band managed to land the honour.

"We are as surprised as you are that we managed to fob off a song about survival on to the Olympics," he is quoted as saying by The Sun newspaper.

Adele is set to miss tonight's (23 October, 2012) London premiere of Skyfall at the Royal Albert Hall to spend more time with her newborn son.

"Adele doesn’t want to leave her little boy’s side, it’s as simple as that. Right through her pregnancy she’s been practically a shut-in as she wanted to look after herself and the baby."
