Axl Rose has given the audience on the Jimmy Kimmel show free Guns 'N' Roses tickets.

Appearing in his first live TV interview for more than 20 years, the much maligned frontman wrapped things up by informing the entire audience that they each had a pair of tickets under their seat.

The tickets are for the rock star's sold out 12-date stint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Rose told Kimmel: "I think we got some tickets under the people's seats. There should be two sets of tickets if you reach under your seats."

The singer explained how he felt he should 'give everyone a surprise' - an admission to which the audience were visibly delighted.

The element of surprise was not lost on the show's host either as he stated: "I've had a lot of fun talking to you, I honestly didn't know what to expect."

Many of Rose's past public appearances have been surrounded by controversy, and over the years the 'Paradise City' singer has become as famous for his erratic personality as for his music.

He hit the headlines in 2010 when he stormed off stage mid-way through a show at Dublin's O2 Arena after being bottled when he arrived on stage an hour late.

His inability to arrive on stage on time was something that he went on to discuss on Kimmel's show.

When asked whether the band would be on time in Vegas, Rose responded slightly unconvincingly by saying: "We'll probably go on about the time we're really supposed to go on - as soon as I find out when that is."

It was also revealed that the 50-year-old has an Oscar Wilde quote hanging in his home, which reads "Punctuality is the thief of time."

The Vegas residency has been named 'Appetite for Democracy', leading Kimmel to question Rose on his allegiances in the US presedential election - to which Rose claimed he is 'not really a voter'.

As well as the gig tickets the rock veteran hired a burger van to stop outside the studio, for which audience members were given a free coupon.
