Brian May has won the battle to convince the government to abandon a controversial badger cull.
May spoke out about the pro-badger campaign last month, criticising government plans to allow a trial cull of badgers in the UK. He warned that the results will be terrible and arguing that badgers do not carry the TB virus they are being killed to stop.
May also founded Team Badger as part of the campaign, which is an umbrella charity made up of other animal charities such as the RSPCA. He has previously said that he considers his wildlife work more important than his music.
Yesterday, politicians voted to abandon the cull and instead are calling on government agriculture officials to introduce a vaccination programme.
May, who was present for the decision, immediately took to Twitter to share his news. He wrote: "We won ! Thanks to you. Onwards ! Bri x"
May posted the above photo of himself toasting his victory outside the Houses of Parliament on the banks of the River Thames.
May later spoke out in more detail, adding: "I can hardly believe we have come this far. Huge thanks to all of you who tweeted, signed petition and wrote to MPs. It all made a difference.
"Of course the war will still rage. But it will never again be quite so easy for a government to ignore the right of a native species to respect and welfare. A decent life and a decent death. And no unnecessary premature death may be judged 'humane'. #TeamBadger has only just got started.
"One day animals will truly have a voice. Today might be the beginning of the end of the Dark Ages. Cruelty cannot be justified."
