Australian folk singer Mark Pearl's new project Texture Like Sun are easy on the ears with a blend of soft folk and emotive lyrics.
Having released an album back in 2007 under The Commas alias, Melbourne’s Mark Pearl returns with a new six piece band, Texture Like Sun. Last year debut track 'Bottles' sparked excitement amongst fans and it is clear to see why. Pearl's vocals are subdued yet powerful in conveying honest lyrics. The minimal backing track builds up nicely before the banjo and whistles get thrown into the arrangement to control the tempo and as the track comes to an end, you want to hear more.
The haunting nature of 'Bottles' has been followed up by new single 'One Great Prize', the title track from the band's debut EP of the same name. Pearl’s earthy vocals continue to impress and the work with award winning producer Pip Norman means that everything has just been stepped up a notch. The rawness and soft folk feel has not been lost, but the fuller arrangement gives the band a more structured sound.
Pearl's impressive vocals are obviously going to be compared to other emotive singers, most notably to those of Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. To even be mentioned in the same breath as Vernon identifies the talent behind the singer of Texture Like Sun, but with the popularity of acoustic and folks acts today there is no reason why Texture Like Sun cannot join in.

The self-titled EP was recorded across Darwin and Melbourne’s Bounce County Studios and will be available from 2nd of November.
