Police investigating Jimmy Savile sex abuse claims have arrested disgraced seventies star Gary Glitter as part of their investigation.
The investigation into claims that Savile has molested hundreds of young girls over 40 years yesterday has shocked the nation. Yesterday a video emerged online which appeared to show Savile groping a teenage girl live on TV while hosting Top Of The Pops.
Police officers confirmed the new arrest, with the BBC reporting Operation Yewtree officers had: "arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation".
"The man, from London, was arrested at approximately 7:15 BST on suspicion of sexual offences.
"The individual falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed 'Savile and others'."
Gary Glitter was previously arrested in 1997 on child pornography charges. He was sentenced to four years in jail in 1999 and named on the UK sex offenders register.
Fellow UK star Freddie Starr was previously implicated in the Savile investigation but has protested his innocence fully and worked closely with police officers investigating the case.
