One Direction to split? Boyband planning ten-year break

One Direction have announced plans to take a decade off music, following in the footsteps of their boyband idols, Take That.

However, fans can relax - it doesn't look like it will be happening any time soon. Niall Horan spoke out during an Australian interview, making the claim that a ten year split and then a reunion could be the best thing for them.

He said, "We want to be like Take That or Gary Barlow; take 10 years out and then come back."

Take That split in 1996 and got back together in 2005 - which would make a nine year split. Maybe Niall Horan needs to work on his maths skills...

Seeing as they were only formed two years ago in 2010, One Direction will probably be together for a while more before going down the reunion route.

The band went on to talk about their new single 'Little Things', which received its first radio play in the UK yesterday. The song was written by Ed Sheeran, and is a little different to their usual upbeat pop sound.

Niall said, "We heard the song and said, 'Yeah, that's a cracker and we want it'."

One Direction: The next Take That, apparently.

Ed Sheeran recently spoke about the song, as quoted by the Daily Record. The 'A-Team' singer commented, "I think they just wanted to try something different. I think they did the same formula with the last single – it sounded like a One Direction song – and now I think they want to switch it up a bit."

Could this be - dare we say it - a new direction?

Harry finished by talking about his ex, Caroline Flack, insisting that the pair are still on good terms.

Harry said, "Caroline and I are good friends and we are still in touch.

"Every time we are in the same place we seem to argue, but we get along fine."
