The Old Bailey has heard details of a nightclub tussle which led to the death of a man at a Jessie J show.

Family man, Phillip Sheriff, died after being stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle by Ashley Charles, at Pulse nightclub in London. This was at an event held by mobile phone company, Blackberry.

The Sun newspaper reveals that Sheriff and Charles argued at the bar after Sheriff, who worked for Blackberry, began speaking to a woman at the bar. The tabloid reveals the court heard that Charles said to Sheriff: "She doesn’t want to talk to you, mate. I think she’d rather talk to me."

The woman, named as Sheridan White, is said to have walked off after the pair began jostling at the bar in a queue for free drinks.

The Metro newspaper quotes prosecutor Duncan Penny as telling the court: "It happened very quickly indeed - perhaps one second, one second to take a life."

The newspaper claims that Charles initially tried to snatch Sheriff's phone, before grabbing a bottle and slashed it into the 37-year-old's neck.

Charles later said to police at the event: "It was a stupid mistake. Why did I do that?"

The trial continues.
